Was this just using a fairly smart concept of tamers and expanding on it or was it original and either way was what they did successful?

it was expanding on it but this is what I think about the events that led to the creation of DNA Digivolution BioMerging and Frontier's Digivolution
Drunk Exec: *sits up from being passed* They Should Combine Like Megazords Oh yeah! *falls over*
Next Year: same Guy: *sits up* The Humans should COMBINW OH YEAH! *falls over*
Next Year: SAME GUY: *sits up* They should be Digital Power Rangers! *falls over*
