Okay so I had a really dark idea that I don't usually have. The purpose of this story is to provoke emotion so I hope I achieve that. I want to warn that there is character death but it isn't gruesome. Anyways onto the story.
Tai and Sora wandered through the barren desert. Sand swirled around them, the great sand dunes threatened to capside and the well beaten circular path that they walked was beginning to annoy them, Matt had promised he would meet them there. Ever since he and Sora had broken up he seemed to be cool and happy about Tai and Sora being together and so they had decided to meet in the sahara desert, where he was currently working to have a coffee morning, at the moment it was midday and the sun was beating down like a drumstick on the soft drumskin that was their necks.
"Sor... where is he?" Tai asked as they stopped and sat down in the shadow of a sand dune.
"I'm not sure, Tai." Sora said for the fourth time as she watched him pass her their last water bottle, it had a mouthful of water left in, why didn't he take it? The reason was what made Sora's heart beat, what her smile from the second she woke up to the time when her eyes closed on a night. She loved him and he loved her. It was sad to be rid of Matt but she was so glad she had Tai, he had been nothing but a good sport about her still speaking to Matt and Matt had been a great sport about their relationship.
"We better start walking in a circle again, the helicopter might not be able to see us in the shade" Tai said with a frown as he got up, rubbed himself down and then helped Sora to her feet. Sora smiled and curtsied in thanks to his kind gesture, Tai just giggled but as they moved to walk Tai collapsed, Sora figured it was the heat but as she moved to check on him but as she did she felt something hard hit her head and it all went black.
She awoke to see herself in an entirely white room "wha..." she began, looking around she paused as she saw that one of the walls was made of glass. She gasped as she saw Tai laid down on the floor "Tai!" she screamed, she ran over to the glass and started banging, she used all of her strength, trying to wake her lover. Tai's eyes fluttered open and he saw Sora. He ran over to the glass and he planted his hands on it, keeping close to Sora. He looked around the room and frowned "Sora, what is this place?" he asked as he looked at her. Sora stared at his mouth and then felt tears well up, she couldn't hear the voice she loved so much. "Tai!" she shouted, he raised an eyebrow as he realised he couldn't hear anything but a dull sound. "TAI!" she screamed. Tai frowned, they couldn't hear each other, but that didn't matter, what mattered was where were they, why were they here and what was here?
Sora turned quickly as she saw part of the white wall on her side open up, it was glass. She could faintly see a figure on the other side but she couldn't make out specifics, it was then that the intercom fired up. Speaking to her. "Sora... I hope you like it here, I'm sorry that it can't be more comfortable but business never is" the voice was one that Sora knew all to well. "Matt?" she asked aloud, there was no reply. "Matt! What are we doing here!?" Sora shouted angrily "This isn't funny, this isn't a joke, Matt!" she shouted. It was then that the intercom crackled and Matt's voice appeared again. She turned to see Tai looking at her confused, why was he just speaking to her?
"Sora... I didn't want to have to do this but every day... My heart is broken Sora, I can't be without you... I'm sorry but there is only one way I can be happy again, be with me?" he asked, his voice was sincere and sad. "I'm with Tai, you know that!" Sora shouted back, she didn't know if he could hear unless she shouted. "Calm down" Matt said, Sora breathed deeply and waited for the next words that he would say with anticipation. "You are here to help me achieve my dream or destroy yours" Matt explained. "What do you mean!?" Sora asked, confused now. "I mean that, I want you to be with me, leave Tai." Matt said, like it was obvious.
"I can't Matt, I love Tai, I've told you this" Sora said slowly, she was beginning to get scared "Matt, let us out?" Sora asked as she looked up at the silent glass. "I can't." Matt replied simply, his voice was a lot colder now. "Matt! This isn't funny anymore, it never was, let us out, now!" Sora ordered. "Sorry, if I can't have you then neither can he..." Matt said, she heard a dial being twisted and a knob pressed and spun to Tai. Tai's eyes became huge. "Tai!" Sora shouted, shocked.
"Matt, what are you doing!?" Sora shouted angrily "I'm sorry Sora, as I said... If I can't have you... then neither can he!" Matt's reply was cold and heartless and it made Sora's bones shiver, even more so because of the green vest top and burgandy leggings and sandals that she was wearing. She turned to see Tai in his brown shorts, t-shirt and flip flops. He was gasping for air and slowly falling to his knees. "Matt, this isn't funny! Stop it! Now!" Sora screamed, she felt her face flush with anger and her fists tense. "Sora, leave Tai and it all stops, it's as simple as that" Matt's voice said, it still sounded sincere and kind. "Matt, I can't! What are you doing to Tai? He's your friend!" Sora asked, her face red with anger and fear. Her head swimmed with the emotions that she had become all too familiar with in the digital world; love, sincerity, hope, courage, friendship, reliability, knowledge and light. It seemed that love was the cause, sincerity was here, hope was lost, courage was strong as ever, frienship was dead, reliability had vanished, they had no knowledge and there was no light at the end of the tunnel, only darkness.
"Matt, please!" Sora begged as she saw Tai on his knees, choking. "What are you doing!? He's your friend!" she protested. "It's a partially painful carbon monoxide gas that will fill his lungs and his entire body until..." Matt explained. "He dies..." Sora muttered. "Yes." Matt replied. "No! You can't do this! He's your friend! Please, I'm begging!" Sora said, falling to her knees, just like Tai was on his knees. "Sora, you had your chance, now there is only one solution, I kill him and then you can be with me!" Matt announced, his voice was now evil and it gave Sora chills. She spun and moved to the glass. "Tai! Hold on!" Sora shouted, banging on the glass, she saw her husband clutching his throat, and the feeling that she couldn't do anything was just too much. "Tai, you can't leave! I love you!" Sora shouted at the top of her voice banging on the glass, Tai collapsed, his body hit the ground and the intercom crackled on "It's over, Sora. You an be with me now" Matt said. As he did Tai's body lifted up, Tai was pushing himself up on just one arm, he dragged his body towards the glass, coughing and splurting blood from his mouth as tears trickled down his face.
"Tai..." Sora said, reaching to the glass she placed a palm onto it, to see her lover in this state was just too much. She felt the salty water trickle from her eyes as she stared at Tai's attempt to reach her. She banged on the glass furiously "Matt, Please! Don't do this!" she screamed. There was no reply. "Matt!" she screamed, turning her head she looked at the glass, there she could see the shadowy outline of someone sat down, drinking a can. She spun back to Tai, he reached up and placed his palm onto the glass, she looked at him and her heart broke into a million pieces. He looked back at her and smiled, it was the same smile that had got her through the darkest of times and it made her heart skip a beat. "Please!" Sora screamed. Tai looked at her, his face was one of pure love. He opened his mouth and spoke. "I love you" Tai muttered as he felt the last of his oxygen get torn from his lungs. "Please" Sora cried. Sora looked back at him as she saw his mouth move and it broke her heart that she couldn't tell what his last words were. "Tai... I love you too" Sora said with a smile of her own, she knew there was little else that she could say at this point as Tai's beautiful eyes closed, for the last time. "Please" she muttered.
Sora grasped at the glass as the hand slipped a little and his face hit the ground, tears were pouring from her eyes like a waterfall. "Oh it's over?" Matt said, his voice one of boredom. Sora clenched her fist and banged it against the glass, as she got up she felt the tears stop falling, she had lost every last single tear in that one single moment, now all that was left was anger. Anger, courage... and love. She clenched both of her fists and stared at the glass, she ran at the wall and swung her fist, the wall reverbereted and the glass shook violently "This room was built to be indestructible, don't waste your time. Now, you can be with me" Matt announced. Sora ignored the voice, it meant nothing to her anymore. "Cheese you!" she screamed, slamming her other fist into the wall she heard the sound of the glass shaking more violently than before. "Give up, and be with me" Matt said, his voice was still sincere. "Screw you! Tai was the one I loved! He was the ONE! You aren't even worth counting to one!" she screamed angrily. "Well if you feel that way, then I'm afraid you can go the same way as him!" Matt shouted, he twisted another dial and pressed the knob a second time. Sora breathed in deeply, looked at the wall and swung her fist, it was powered by all the courage she had seen, all the friendship she had known and all the love she had experienced. The glass cracked, but it didn't shatter however she felt herself shatter as she breathed out in exhaustion and the gas rushed in, she dropped to her knees and gasped for air. "Tai did nothing but care for you, like a brother, and now he's dead!" Sora shouted angrily as she started to crawl over to the glass wall.
"Tai took you, and you meant the world to me" Matt replied matter-of-factly, he had no care or sincerity left in his voice. "And now you are killing me! You won't get away with this!" Sora shouted angrily as she collapsed onto the floor, she lay there, her face turned to the side and her mouth releasing spittle at a rapid rate. "All I have to say is you got lost in the desert" Matt replied "And now I must make my leave." he said. "I LOVE YOU TAICHI KAMIYA AND I ALWAYS WILL!" Sora shouted at the top of her voice, in the center of the cracks it cracked a little bit more, just enough so there was a small hole. "What!" Matt gasped as Sora smiled "We die together in friendship! We die because of love! We die with courage!" Sora shouted, she felt her body scream in pain as she pushed herself up, Tai's face was pressed against the glass, and so was his right hand. Sora nodded with a quiet resolve and dragged her body as Matt gasped for air and cursed angrily. "You stupid Mimi, you've killed us all!" he shouted, "no, you did." Sora muttered as she pushed her face up against the glass, she felt a single tear fall, it trickled down the glass until it reached the floor and it was all over. 'I die with you, I die for you, I love you... Tai' Sora thought as the life left her body.
"So what went on here, then?" Someone asked as they walked into the room in a hazmat suit. "It seems that carbon monoxide was released from these vents into both cells. The one in the right cell block died first, the one in the second died a shorter, more painful death shortly afterwards" another man explained as he pointed at each of the points. "And him?" a woman asked, pointing at the body hanging out of the edge of a control room, his hand clenched into a fist as it forced through the glass. "He died last, it seems he died with the most anguish" the man explained. "And their body positions?" the first man asked. "He died like that because he punched shattered glass in one last angry moment, he's still in rigor mortis" the second man replied. "And them?" the first man asked. "They died by crawling, slowly and painfully towards each other, to die together, love until the end" the woman explained, she felt a tear fall down her cheek. "Mimi, stay strong" the first man ordered "Sorry, Ken" Mimi replied, wiping the tear with her hands inside the hazmat suit. "Takeru?" Ken asked as he turned to the other comrade with them. "This isn't over." he said slowly.
Oh god, I hate it but it has to be posted, I hope you like it and please give me as many critiscms and critiques as you can as I really am not happy with it.
