Joe felt his hands clam up as they walked. She was gorgeous, truly a sight to behold. And it was him and no one else that was getting to walk with her. “Let’s go in here, Joe” Mimi ordered, she headed over the road to the shops, ignoring any oncoming cars. She was so blissfully oblivious... A car horn tore Joe from his daydream. Mimi had caused two cars to crash so that they didn’t run her over. Joe ran across the street apologising repeatedly as he shook Mimi. “Hey, Mimi!” he called. She turned and smiled “Don’t do that again, it’s dangerous” Joe explained.
“Do what?” Mimi asked curiously
“You know what, walking across the road without looking. Look let’s just go in and get some drinks. I’m really thirsty and the doctor’s say you should always keep hydrated.
“You’re the man... I guess” Mimi mumbled, following her hopeless friend over the half wall that was around the small gaggle of shops.
They ignored the DIY shop, the florist shop and the sweet shop and headed straight into the convenience store. Mimi wandered inside mindlessly while Joe brushed away a person who was begging for money. “Sorry” Joe mumbled apologetically as he rushed inside. Mimi was staring at the energy drinks. “I don’t think you need any more excitement” Joe insisted, giving her a gentle push away from the soft hum of the fridge that held the drinks.
“But Joe...” Mimi mumbled, like a child that had lost its toy for being badly behaved.
“Fine, shop on your own then” Joe growled, he regretted it immediately but luckily it didn’t bother Mimi. “I’m going to go get a drink” Joe mumbled as he walked away.
He walked around the shop until he reached the large white fridge that held the milk. He reached inside and grabbed a bottle “It’s common knowledge that milk – or more correctly – protein builds strong bones” Joe mumbled. He checked the bottle for dents and made sure it had the blue label which signified it was full fat. As much as he wished he could he couldn’t stomach the lower fat content milks. He’d rather be fat than throwing up every time he drank milk. He turned on his heels and headed back towards where he left Mimi.
“You decided what you want yet, Mimi?” Joe asked. Mimi was still in the same spot as before. She was undeterred by Joe’s efforts to sway her from the energy drinks and had finally selected one that she wanted.
“Okay, I’m ready” Mimi announced as she grabbed the can and walked off towards the adjacent tills. Joe followed quickly, careful not to be left behind. Mimi simply batted her eyelids at the long queue of pubescent boys and they parted like the sea.
“Mimi you shouldn’t have done that” Joe hissed, slipping in next to her uneasily.
“Oh its fine, they don’t mind” Mimi replied cheerfully. “Do you?” she asked sexily to the boys who were waiting behind them. They all shook their head in unison, trying to avoid drooling. “See” Mimi growled back, walking over to the till she set her can down and paid quickly. The woman behind the till didn’t look impressed but Mimi didn’t even seem to notice. Joe quickly followed and they both left the shop.
Mimi walked over to the half wall and sat on it, removing her shoes. She began to rub her feet and moan in ecstasy. “Oh I needed this sit down” she groaned.
“Calm down Mimi, there are people around” Joe hissed as he sat next to her and realised that he too needed a little sit down. “Oh okay maybe we could sit for awhile” Joe murmured, getting comfortable on the wall.
“Nah, let’s go.” Mimi chided as she got to her feet, slipped her shoes on and began to walk away from the shops. Joe rolled off the wall and leapt to his feet.
“Wait up!” he shouted.
Mimi sighed and looked at a nearby car; in it was a man and a woman making out. “How cute is that?” Mimi asked in a dreamy voice.
“It’s gross” Joe replied, disgusted. Mimi scoffed
“No it isn’t, it’s sweet. Like a sweet shop...” Mimi trailed off.
“You’ve went from sharing saliva to sweets, I suppose the link is plausible but if you consider the implications of having such a brai-” Joe rambled.
“Shh” Mimi cut in. “Let’s go get some sweets!” she chirped. She began to skip away, across the road, carelessly ignoring a car that nearly smashed her in two. She reached the other side of the road and leapt into the air and flipped forwards, pirouetting. As she fell down she span so that her hands were pointing to the ground. As she landed she began to cart wheel down the street, giggling childishly as her skirt flailed about her legs in the breeze. Joe chased after her, apologising to the driver of the car and the parent in the nearby barber shop as he went.
Mimi eventually stopped as she reached the pub and realised the pavement outside was too sticky from spilled alcohol to continue. “Hey slow down!” Joe shouted, breathless. Mimi stopped and stared at the pub, there was a poster of a man with an abnormally large nose as an advertisement for a circus. “What’re you looking at?” Joe asked as he came to a stop and began to breathe heavily. Mimi shakily pointed at the poster. “What’s wrong with it?” Joe asked, looking at the seemingly normal poster.
“His nose is huge!” Mimi exclaimed.
“So?” Joe asked.
“I’m terrified of large noses...” Mimi admitted sheepishly.
“Really?” Joe asked, unsure if he was having his leg pulled, like usual.
“Y-yup” Mimi stuttered.
“Well let’s get going then, I still love you, don’t worry” Joe laughed; he grabbed her hand gently and took her away quickly.
They walked for another minute before they reached the shop; Joe helped Mimi cross the road carefully this time. “Joe?” Mimi mumbled as they paused outside the shop.
“Yeah?”
“Thanks” Mimi blurted out, kissing him on the cheek and then walking into the shop.
“It’s no biggie...” Joe muttered, in shock.
The sweet shop was a small shop on the corner of two small rows of shops. It had a white, fanciful front which made it highly visible and large glass windows so the beautiful colours inside could amaze you from the outside.
Joe walked into the shop, listening to the bell ding as he searched for Mimi; she was over at the large boxes of sweets, pointing at the ones she wanted for the woman at the till to grab. Joe walked over to the ice cream section at the other end of the shop and grabbed a small box and walked over to the till. The woman allowed Mimi to decide how much she wanted of each and then took Joe’s money. He began to browse the tables and shelves of multi-coloured sweets while Mimi collected all of her small white bags of sweets. “Come on Joe” Mimi insisted as she staggered over to the door with fifteen bags of various sweets in her arms.
“Can we have a bag?” Joe asked, with a sigh. The woman nodded with a giggle and handed Joe the bag, He helped Mimi release all but one of the bags into the larger bag and carried it out of the store for her as she sauntered away.
“She’s a real treat” the woman laughed as Joe smiled back and let the door swing shut.
Joe caught up to Mimi as she danced back towards her house, it wasn’t far now. They were really going back to hers. He wondered if it was the right thing, it had never been just them two. There had always been someone else, usually Tai or Sora. “Come on Joe!” Mimi shouted as she ran across the road towards her house. It was just a little further up and then left into the cul de sac. Joe rushed after her, careful that he didn’t drop his ice cream. “You’re so slow!” Mimi laughed as she skipped off into the cul de sac.
By the time Joe caught up Mimi was entering her home. Her whole family was home, that meant Joe had to deal with them as well. Well to be fair it was just her, her little sister; Karen and her parents; Keisuke and Satoe. Joe ran up to the house and ran inside after Mimi. “Come on, let’s go upstairs” Mimi insisted, running up the stairs to the left of the door. They were carpeted cream and so was the landing upstairs. Joe chased her upstairs and into her room which was to the left of the staircase. He leapt onto her bed after her and tickled her a little, make her giggle uproariously.
They played on the bed for awhile before Joe got up and breathed deeply. Mimi smiled and turned on her computer and began to play on a game. Joe and Mimi looked at each other once before the idea came into Mimi's head. “I have a sofa outside in my back garden...” she announced, slowly.
“Cool” Joe replied, mindlessly
“It'd be cool if we spooned on it” Mimi muttered as she looked out of the window and noticed that darkness was already creeping in.
“I guess...” Joe replied.
Mimi sighed and got up. She walked down the stairs and headed out into her back garden, grabbing a plate of chips for her and Joe. Her dad moaned but she simply walked out across the soft green grass – feeling it between her toes – and sat on the brown leather sofa. She began to eat while she waited for Joe who was slowly putting his shoes on and grabbing a sweater. Mimi groaned and stuffed three chips into her mouth at once and swallowed instantly. “Joe!” she called as she placed the chips onto the grass. Joe poked his head around the side of the house and spotted Mimi in the middle of her garden, on a brown leather sofa, eating chips.
“You aren't normal...” he muttered as he walked over
“You aren't a girl. Any more deductions, smart guy?” she retorted quickly. Joe became silent and walked across the grass quietly.
Mimi ate another chip – from the plate in the grass – and tapped the sofa next to her. Joe walked over and sat on the edge. “That's unhygienic” he commented.
“Shut up Joe” Mimi retorted before throwing a chip at him. Joe moved to put it in the bin but Mimi shook her finger “Eat it and I'll kiss ya” Mimi told him as she swallowed a few more. Joe looked at her and then the chip. He moaned in fear as he slowly placed it into his mouth and chewed. He swallowed forcefully and smiled. Mimi laughed and kissed him on the cheek before patting the space behind her as the stars crept into view. Joe slipped behind her and their bodies locked like spoons, with a little force from Mimi, and they lay in the brisk night air.
As the sky became entirely dark and a peaceful and calming silence had taken hold of the two Mimi turned to Joe and smiled. The starlight lit up her face and she lit up his. “Mi-” he began. Mimi placed her fingers on his lips and then locked lips with him. He kissed back and they continued kissing until, slowly, Mimi pulled away.
“I think I love you Joe” Mimi muttered. Joe smiled at the thought of her but he knew it was wrong. She was promised to someone else, not him.
“Mimi...” he muttered.
“Shhh, let's just lay here and think” Mimi interrupted him as she grabbed hold of his hand that was draped over her and squeezed it.
“The moon is beautiful isn't it?” Mimi asked as she looked at the stars
“So are you” Joe muttered
“What?” Mimi asked, looking into the cloudless sky and smiling
“I said: I like Vindaloo” Joe thought quickly but regretted saying it immediately
“We can have some then, but some other time” Mimi promised with a smile as the moonlight drenched them with it's omniscient glow.
“Do what?” Mimi asked curiously
“You know what, walking across the road without looking. Look let’s just go in and get some drinks. I’m really thirsty and the doctor’s say you should always keep hydrated.
