Ever wondered how hard it is to catch lightning? Well I’ll tell you now, it’s not easy. I’ll tell you my story, I guess, I have time.
I looked out across the park; she was sat there, laughing, like always. Her red hair shone in the sun making her seem like some sort of angel. I walked over, to our friends, and her without thinking twice. It was hard loving someone and never being able to talk to them. It was the hardest thing I’d ever had to do “Hey Tai!” she called over, her voice was cheerful and she immediately bounded to her feet and ran over to me.
“Catch me!” she shouted, leaping into the air as she ran, I ran to her to catch her mid-air but I stumbled and hit the ground. She landed on top of me with a thump “Nice catch” she giggled.
We spoke for hours that day, until after everyone went home, and then I wondered if she’d ever say anything because I was just too shy to utter a word. I could save the world, and yet saying what I felt to the girl I loved still seemed impossible. She whispered goodbye in my ear, leaving the sweet smell of her perfume hanging around me as she walked away. I sighed, and went home. What else could I do?
I remember falling to sleep at about twelve and waking up at around one. I just lay there, thinking and wondering. I can’t remember, for sure, what time I got back out of bed but I do remember climbing out of my window and just running as fast as I could just to catch the spark before it went out. I knew she was going away tomorrow, that’s why we’d had the picnic, to pretend it would all be okay while she was gone… but it’d tear my heart in two.
The stars glistened above me as I ran towards her house. I was barefoot, and it was cold so it didn’t take long before I was regretting not getting shoes, or at least slippers. I remembered the way to her house, I’d often thought about walking this way on Valentine’s Day but I’d never built up the courage to actually do it. Silly that, right? I bounded over a garbage can and kept running, I was nearly there now.
I reached her house and threw a stone at her window, then another, and then another. My heart stung as I didn’t see her appear, it wasn’t always like that book: Romeo and Juliet. It sucked but the movies weren’t real. I turned to go and then I heard her melodic voice “What do you want Tai?” she asked, the stars all around her as she leaned out of her window and looked down at me with those beautiful eyes
“I’ve been waiting to tell you…” I admitted, biting my lip
“Waiting to tell me what?” she asked
“That… I… I think that…” I stammered
“Tai it’s three in the morning, out with it already!” she shouted, rubbing sleep from her eyes
“Sora, I love you!” I blurted out, following my heart.
“Tai… I don’t know what to say…” she whispered, breathless suddenly
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said anything” Tai slunk backwards into the shadows, regretting saying anything
“No, it’s just… I wanna come down there and show you how long I’ve been waiting but I don’t know how to move… to breathe…” I stared at her, perplexed until she leapt from her window “Catch me!” she giggled
“Wha-” I blurted. Suddenly my arms were as full of her as my eyes were
“Kiss me, idiot” she laughed, locking lips with me.
And that’s the story of how I caught Lightning. Not the most interesting blog entry but when I think back to how hard it seemed, I want everyone to know: It’s not impossible.
